Lady Starlight, a performance artist, met Gaga at the time. Gaga was signed to Streamline Records by Vince Herbert in 2007 after a performance at Lollapalooza Festival 2007. Gaga was an apprentice songwriter during her apprenticeship with Famous Music Publishing. This business was later purchased and rebranded Sony/ATV Music Publishing. The company then asked her to write songs in support of Britney Spears as well as labelmates New Kids on the Block and Fergie. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. The album she released first, "The Fame", was released in 2008, with very little media attention. Gaga went on tour throughout Europe and in the US to promote her album. It wasn't until Gaga made her debut with her hit song, "Just Dance", that attention from the public began to come to the music industry. Gaga was suffering from a tear in the labrum in her right hip, which she had been nursing secretly for several weeks in the belief that she would be able to continue her tour. After her performance in Toronto Gaga became unable to walk and was in extreme pain. She was admitted to the hospital, and her tour was canceled.
