
Pointe Claire, a quiet neighborhood within the West Island of Montreal is where you can find a range of small businesses. Many people unfamiliar with the word generally believe that it's an separate island off the coast of Montreal however, in reality the West Island is home to all things that belong to Lachine west to Lachine west. Many times, it is regarded as the place of birth for Amanda Brugel, but while it's true that she was born there it was not her home. Her time in the city was brief. Brugel lived in Courtice located outside of Oshawa, Ontario. Her first ambition was to be a dancer, but a growth spurt meant that she grew beyond her dance partners. In a piece in The Toronto Star she admitted, "In heels I'm 6'1 inch. When I outgrew my male counterparts, I stopped. A lot of former dancers go into acting. In the case of Brugel she was influenced by the drama teacher at her the high school. She was encouraged to audition for a part in a school production. Following a trial, she got the role of leading lady of Anne of Green Gables. This led to the award of a Fine Arts Talent Scholarship at York University where she attended the Theatre Program and earned her Bachelor in Fine Arts degree in 2000.In the twenty years since, Brugel has landed roles in over 60 shows both on small and big screen, attracting the greatest notice when she won the part of Rita on the award-winning television series, The Handmaid's Tale
